Welcome from Dr. Elizabeth Mullenix, Dean of the College of Creative Arts.
Welcome from the Dean of the College of Creative Arts
One of the things that's really great about studying the arts at Miami is that we are not an art school like RISD or SCAD or MICA and we are not a conservatory like the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Yet, all of our departments are nationally accredited and we have the same professional degree programs that you would find at a conservatory or an art school, a BFA, a BM, a Bachelor of Music. However, the thing that's really exciting about studying the arts and creative fields at Miami, is that you can double major so you can be a theater major, study architecture, play the bassoon, but also double major in business, double major in journalism, etc.
Students who love coming to Miami to study creative industries or the arts are students who are interested in doing more than one thing. Students who might want to major in theater and physics at the same time. Students who want to play the violin but also want to be in the science lab. That is the wonderful opportunity that you have at Miami. Another really excellent thing about studying the Arts in Miami is that we are very focused on career readiness. We ban the term "starving artists" and we only talk about thriving artists at Miami. And so from day one, we have a specific career counseling for students who are interested in pursuing a creative field, many checkpoints along the way, and then a network of alumni that are there to support you after you leave Miami. So we are very, very focused on on career readiness as well as that deep dive into your artistic discipline.
